Dynasty Designed and created by Dianna Stevens © 2001 This pattern was created to show how single or multiple beads could be shared between two tatting elements, for the Online Tatting Class 2001.    The pattern is for a single segment of the ornament.  Follow the instructions for the diagrammed pattern.   Materials used:  size 80 thread, size 15 seed beads, in a main and contrasting color.  2 mm round  metallic bead.  Three sizes of picot gauges.  0.4 mm crochet hook. (Optional: Picot  Beader or  Bead Loader).  Size A beading thread, and a twisted wire beading needle.  The pear shaped ornament was found at my local craft store.   Six motif were made to fit the pear shaped ornament.  It will also fit a large round  ornament. You can substitute size 20 or 30 thread, size 11 seed beads, and size 3 mm round.  The number of  motif may be less to fit around the desired ornament. Note:  There are seed beads on the core thread between each double stitch on all chains.   Needle tatters:  Be sure that the seed beads you use will fit over your needle. You will load 120 beads on the auxiliary thread.  All core beads will be placed over your needle between each double stitch. Begin:  Thread 220 main color seed beads on approx. 4.5 yards of thread on the shuttle.   Wind these 4.5 yards onto the shuttle from the ball -- do not cut.

1. R. 8 – 4 – 4, cl. 2. R. 4 + (2 mm) 5 – 5 – 4, cl. 3. R. 4 + (2 mm) 4 –  8, cl. 4. Ch. 1, * slide SB on core thread, 1*, repeat *-* for a total of 5 SB, – (picot) reverse work and repeat *-* for a total of 4 SB ---  4 SB.

5. R. 8 + (2 mm) 4 — 4, cl. This long picot should hold 5 SB over the picot. Remember to leave a space of one extra bead for joining space. 6. R. 4 ----- 4 – 8, cl. This long picot holds (1 contrast SB, 1 main SB, 1 contrast SB, 2 mm, 1 contrast SB, 1 main SB, 1 contrast SB). These beads are added before joining to the corresponding rings on the opposite side. 7. Ch. 1, * slide SB on core thread, 1*, repeat *-* for a total of 6 SB -- 6 SB.

8. R. 8 + (2 mm) 4 ----- 4, cl. 9. R. 4 ----- 4 – 8, cl. 10. Ch. 1, * slide SB on core thread, 1*, repeat *-* for a total of 12 SB. 11. R. 8 + (2 mm) 4 ----- 4, cl. 12. R. 4 — 4 – 8, cl. This long picot should hold 5 SB over the picot.

13. Ch. 1, * slide SB on core thread, 1*, repeat *-* for a total of 8 SB, +(2 mm) reverse work and repeat *-* for a total of 5 SB. 14. R. 8 – (40 SB in picot) 4 – 4, cl. 15. R. 4 + (2 mm) 5 – (40 SB in picot) 5 – 4, cl. 16. R. 4 + (2 mm) 4 – (40 SB in picot) 8, cl. 17. Ch. 1, * slide SB on core thread, 1*, repeat *-* for a total of 4 SB -- 4 SB, +(2 mm) reverse work and repeat *-* for a total of 5 SB. 27. Cut and join to the base of the beginning trefoil. Hide ends as desired.

When you have the required number of motif made, remembering to join the last motif to both the previous motif and the first motif made, you may or may not want to connect the top picot of all motif with a line of beads.   Using a size A beading thread, place a 2mm metallic bead over the top picot, pick up the picot with the thread, add 1 contrast SB, 3 main SB to the thread.  Place another 2 mm metallic bead over the next picot and pick up the picot on the thread.  Continue in like manner until you are where you began.  Tie and hide ends in beads.  I steamed the finished piece for a finished look  I used glass and metallic beads and a cover cloth for the steaming process.  Steaming is not recommended for ornaments made with plastic beads.  Use caution.
